The dress is made of very fine muslin which has been worked with the most beautiful Ayrshire embroidery, motifs of trailing florals, urns and sunflowers. The bodice with gathered and insert lace and tiny puffed sleeves. The gown fastens with ties and little buttons down the centre back of the bodice. The dress has been shortened I suspect from and very long christening gown. There is excess length left in the seam allowance on the inside of the waistband. This is certainly one of the most beautiful examples of a 19th century christening gown I have seen, it’s a beautiful item to be cherished and would display beautifully.
