Antique Down Feather Petticoat Circa 1870

£260.00
SOLD

A rare Victorian lady’s down feather underskirt circa 1870. The skirt is made of turkey red paisley cotton which has been quilted with the lightest Arctic down feathers. This style of skirt winter petticoat was extremely popular in the 1860s and 1870s and was widely manufactured. This is a lovely example with a very beautiful printed pattern. The skirt is lined in plain red cotton. Sadly, there are some holes and tears to the fabric and the skirt has many modern patched repairs. The cotton is a little faded, probably a deeper red originally but is still striking.

Approximate measurements:

Drawstring Waist: up to 40 inches

Length: 33 inches

Hem Circumference: 76 inches
