The dress is made of cream tissue silk lined with glazed cotton. The bodice has a wide open neckline short puffed sleeves and is fitted over the bust and waist with horizontal gathers. The skirt is smooth across the front with the fullness gathered into the back of the waist. The back fastens with hooks and hand sewn eyelets. The dress is an extremely petite size, I would think it likely worn by a teenage girl. I like to think perhaps it was worn for her first ball ! A lovely example of a regency era gown but due to its small size it does make it harder to display on a conventional mannequin so that is something to be aware of.
The dress has some age related wear. The silk has stains and discolouration around the skirt. The bodice shoulders and skirt hem have some tears and splits due to the very light weight of the silk it is brittle in places. The hem is rather frayed around the lower edge.
